Terms of Service

Last updated: March 5, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using TradeProof ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service. The Service is currently in beta and is provided on an as-is basis.

2. Description of Service

TradeProof is a gradebook and student management tool designed for Ontario trades teachers. The Service integrates with Google Classroom and Google Sheets to provide grade management, attendance tracking, AI-generated report card comments, and trade-specific tools. The Service is intended for use by educators in Ontario, Canada.

3. Beta Status

TradeProof is currently in beta. This means the Service may contain bugs, may be updated frequently with or without notice, and features may be added, changed, or removed at any time. While we make every effort to ensure data integrity, we recommend maintaining your own records as a backup during the beta period.

4. Account and Access

To use TradeProof, you must sign in with a Google account. By signing in, you authorize TradeProof to:

  • Access your basic Google profile information (name, email, profile picture)
  • Create and manage a Google Spreadsheet in your Google Drive to store gradebook data
  • Read your Google Classroom courses, rosters, and assignments (read-only)

You may revoke these permissions at any time through your Google Account settings. Revoking permissions will prevent TradeProof from functioning but will not delete any data already in your Google Spreadsheet.

5. Your Responsibilities

As a user of TradeProof, you agree to:

  • Use the Service in compliance with your school board's policies regarding student data and technology use
  • Ensure that your use of the Service complies with all applicable privacy legislation, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Education Act (Ontario)
  • Not share your account or provide access to the Service to unauthorized individuals
  • Maintain appropriate backups of your gradebook data
  • Not use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service

6. Student Data

TradeProof does not store student personally identifiable information (PII) on its servers. All student data — including names, grades, student numbers, and attendance — is stored in your Google Spreadsheet within your school board's Google Workspace.

You, as the teacher, are the data custodian for any student information entered into or accessed through the Service. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with your board's data sharing and privacy policies. TradeProof operates under the same trust model as Google Classroom — we use the same Google APIs your school board already approves.

7. AI-Generated Content

The Service includes AI-powered report card comment generation using Anthropic's API. AI-generated comments are suggestions only and should always be reviewed and edited by the teacher before use. You are solely responsible for the final content of any report card comments submitted to your school board. TradeProof makes no guarantees about the accuracy, appropriateness, or completeness of AI-generated content.

8. Intellectual Property

TradeProof and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by TradeProof and are protected by applicable copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your gradebook data, templates, and any content you create through the Service remain your property.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TradeProof and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of grades, or errors in grade calculation, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.

10. Service Availability

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. During the beta period, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time. Upon termination, your server-side data (account settings, templates) will be deleted upon request. Your Google Spreadsheet and its contents will remain in your Google Drive.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
